Buc-ee’s car wash opens 235 feet long wash tunnel in Daytona Beach

In Daytona Beach, Florida, Buc-ee’s car wash opened a wash tunnel last week measuring 235 feet (over 70 meters), making it the longest in Florida and one of the longest in the world. It fits the company’s focus on quality, because length matters for wash tunnels.

Buc-ee’s is a company with high values. They pay there workers for example much more than the minium wage. New Buc-ee’s workers make at least $17 an hour with benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance. Florida’s minimum wage is currently $12 an hour or $9.98 for tipped employees. Also do their workers get 3 weeks of paid time off a year.

Besides car washes Buc-ee’s is known for there gas stations annex convenience centers, where you can buy pretty much anything that you need if you’re on the road: a wide variety of hot food, bakery items, store-brand snacks, grocery staples, a large selection of home decor, kitchen utensils, clothing, barbecue grills and much more.

Big attraction

Besides big and immaculate restrooms you will also always find a free gas pump at Buc-ee’s, because there are an insane amount of gas pumps on every location. Also is the gas cheaper than elsewhere and are the locations open 24/7, 365 days a year. In May this year the national newspaper USA Today chose Buc-ee’s in the Top 10 for both Best Gas Station Brand and Best Gas Station for Food in the United States.

The 235 feet wash tunnel in Daytona is build right next to the  Buc-ee’s gas station/travel convenience center that opened in March 2021. A smart move, because it has become one of the region’s biggest attractions. A study commissioned by the city found that it drew an astounding 5,4 million visitors from October 2022 to October 2023. That works out to an average of 14,794 visitors a day and 616 per hour.

Higher quality

Building this large wash tunnel next tot their gas station/convenience store is expected to have a positive influence on their whole business in Daytona Beach, because now they not only they have a great gas station and a great convenience store, but also a top-notch car wash. Length matters when it comes to car washes, according to industry expert Steve Gaudreau, who explained why in a 2017 interview with Carwash.com: “The longer the tunnel, the higher the quality of the wash and the higher the volume you will be able to serve effectively. Successful operations, if they have the real estate and project high volume, choose to build their tunnels as long as possible.”
