Top Shine car wash fined £20,000
A hand car wash in a town in the United Kingdom has recently been fined £20,000 after it was found to be employing illegal workers.
Top Shine Hand Car Wash, on Winwick Street in Warrington, has received a hefty fine for employing illegal workers last year, local newspaper the Warrington Guardian reports.
According to them, the company that runs the car wash, Topshine Valeting Ltd, was incorporated in March last year and is now owned by one individual.
Hand car washes are commonplace in streets and communities across the UK, with estimates ranging from 8,000 to 20,000 locations, with annual turnover in 2022 estimated to be £1.8 billion. The HCW industry has been identified as a high-risk sector for labor abuse. The workforce can include illegal migrants who have been trafficked to the UK.
“You can be sent to jail for five years and have to pay an unlimited fine if you’re found guilty of employing someone who you knew or had ‘reasonable cause to believe’ did not have the right to work in the UK,” says Gov.uk.
