The car wash that never materialized

It's unlikely Villach will get a new car wash soon.

Villach was about to have the latest and newest car wash from Oberscheider, an ambitious car wash chain from Austria. But the 8,187 square meter property in the south of the country is for sale again. The project has been discontinued, we learn from local newspaper Meinbezirk

Most of the time you will read about new car washes being opened on Carwashpro.com. One with promising prospects, the latest technology and environmentally friendly water treatment. But once in a while, we come across less positive news.

Local newspaper Meinbezirk made it public that fast-growing car wash chain Oberscheider will not be coming to Villach after all.

Transit hub

Villach lies in the south of Austria and is an important transit hub for car and truck drivers heading either South to Slovenia or Italy or North to Germany. A perfect place for a large car wash, one should think.

According to Meinbezirk, Oberscheider received the green light for their modern car wash from the local council long ago. It involved a 70 m long tunnel with a capacity of about 110 cars an hour. Furthermore, 32 indoor vacuum spots were planned.

For sale again

But the plans have been discontinued, we learn. “The likelihood that the project will come forward is slim,”says Peter Schicho. On behalf of the owner, a private foundation with several board members, he explains why the property is for sale on the open market again. “A division of the property is also conceivable. The building permit remains valid. It is also possible that we sell the finished and building-approved project as a whole.”

The contracts with Oberscheider are still valid, we learn from the article. But according to Schicho the main problem is that the Swiss investor has ceased all activities in Austria. By not acting fast enough, Villach likely lost a brand new car wash.

Good reviews

Oberscheider runs eight outer car washes throughout Austria. They have fx locations in Salzburg, Wels and Vienna. The company gets good reviews. “Very modern wash tunnel with a spacious vacuum square”, says one of the users in Vienna on Google Maps. “A bit expensive but the car gets really clean”, says another.
